You might be an incredible circle holder.
You might be a space holder, an intuitive guide, a mentor, a facilitator, a therapist, a counsellor.
But does that automatically make you an exceptional spiritual teacher?
No.
And I feel very passionate about this.
Being a facilitator or guide is not the same as being a teacher.
The spiritual teacher archetype is unique — and it carries a responsibility that must be consciously cultivated. It is not simply innate (although many of us are called to it).
And above all, it requires something we don’t always talk about openly in spiritual spaces: Power.
The Right Use of Power in the Spiritual Teaching Space
If we want to hold truly transformational teaching spaces, we must stop shying away from power.
The teacher must be unafraid to lead. Unafraid to set the tone. Unafraid to hold the energetic frequency of the room.
The teacher’s role is not just to speak wisdom.
It is to transfer wisdom — and to create the conditions where that transfer can happen in the deepest possible way.
That means being in right relationship with your own power — not power-over, not dominance — but inner authority.
Why Inner Authority Matters
We’ve all been in teaching spaces where the teacher was not in their authority.
You feel it immediately:
-
The space becomes chaotic.
-
The energy gets hijacked by the loudest participant.
-
Emotional crises take over and derail the learning experience.
And as a student, that is incredibly frustrating.
When you enter a teaching space, you’ve paid — with time, money, or energy — to receive something.
It is the teacher’s job to create the conditions where you can receive it.
And this is why spiritual teachers must do their own work around power. We live in a world where power has often been used to harm. But in the spiritual teaching space, power is what allows us to create safety — so students can take bold leaps into their own growth.
The Power of Entrainment
How do we do this?
Through entrainment.
Entrainment is when every particle in the room begins to match the dominant energy present.
As teachers, we must be unafraid to be that dominant frequency. We must hold the tone of the space so that students can rise to meet it.
When I teach, I tell my students very clearly:
I am not here to hand out cookies or false positivity.
I will hold you as I see you — which is as infinite, unlimited consciousness.
And I will entrain the space to that expectation.
This is not about perfection. It is about congruence.
When students enter that frequency, they begin to entrain to their own highest potential.
The Role of Super-Regulation
In group teaching spaces, entrainment becomes something I call super-regulation.
You’ve likely heard of co-regulation — where two people help stabilise each other’s nervous systems.
Super-regulation is when we do this in a group.
As the teacher, you become capable of bringing an entire room into a higher, more coherent frequency.
And your students will feel this, even if they can’t name it.
We’ve all walked into spaces that felt safe, grounded, powerful — and we’ve all felt the opposite, too.
The ability to create this kind of space is what separates exceptional spiritual teachers from the rest.
Content vs Energy: What Really Matters
You can spend hours perfecting your slides, crafting your curriculum, designing your program.
But if you do not energetically prepare the space — if you are not consciously entraining and super-regulating — none of that content will land.
Your students will remember how they felt in your presence long after they’ve forgotten what you said.
And as teachers, we must begin preparing the space long before the first session.
Weeks or even days in advance, I am already setting the energetic tone for the experience I want my students to enter.
Why We Must Embrace the Teacher Archetype Consciously
If you are feeling called to step into teaching — not just space holding, but true teaching — this is the work.
You must become willing to:
- Claim your own power with integrity.
- Learn how to entrain and super-regulate a space.
- Create safety so students can take radical leaps in their learning.
This is not the same as being a space holder.
It is not the same as guiding a circle or facilitating a conversation.
Teaching is an archetype of power, and it must be honoured as such.
