Why Great Teaching Is About More Than Just Great Content

teaching·Ricci-Jane Adams·Jun 22, 2025· 5 minutes

From a very chilly Melbourne, I want to share something I care deeply about: the art of transformational teaching.

If you’ve ever signed up for a program that looked amazing… gorgeous sales page, powerful promises, all the right words… but found yourself disappointed once the class began, I’ve been there too.

And I know how frustrating it is when the content should be life-changing, but the teaching just doesn’t land.

So what’s the missing piece?

It’s this: Teaching is an art form.

It’s not just about having wisdom. It’s about having the capacity to transfer that wisdom in a way that creates genuine, embodied transformation for your students.

The Curriculum Isn’t Enough

One of the most common mistakes I see (especially among new spiritual teachers) is being hyper-focused on curriculum.

We obsess over the content:

  • Have I covered everything?
  • Is there enough?
  • Will they think it’s worth it?

Out of insecurity, doubt, or lack of proper pedagogical training, we end up overpacking our programs. Which is one of the biggest mistakes a teacher can make.

The result?

Our students become overwhelmed.

Their nervous systems freeze.

And the potential for transformation gets lost in the noise.

Teaching isn’t just about what you need to deliver. It’s about what your students need to receive.

What Makes A Great Teacher?

Great teaching starts with a simple but profound question:

“How do I make this a potent learning experience for my students?”

It’s not about you.

It’s not about the curriculum.

A great teacher gets over themselves and gets out of the way - creating a sacred, optimised learning temple where transformation can truly happen.

And that’s a choice. A pedagogical choice.

Whether you teach online, in-person, live, or pre-recorded, you need to ask:

  • How do I turn this content into an experience?
  • How do I shift it from head knowledge to embodied knowing?

My Teaching Method: Learning By Doing

At the Institute, my pedagogical approach is rooted in embodied, immersive, experiential learning. I share the theory, yes, but then I back it up with a practice or process.

That practice becomes the portal for students to own the knowledge, not just understand it intellectually.

For example, if I’m teaching the Law of Mentalism (“All is one”), I’ll pause after two or three minutes of theory and ask:

“What’s the most important thing you’ve just heard me say?”

This isn’t just a recap. It’s a moment of integration.

It helps me see what’s landing and what’s not. And it helps my students take ownership of what they’re learning in real-time.

Then, I’ll take them through a praxis - a guided process that allows them to feel that principle in their body, not just hear it in their mind.

This is the secret sauce. This is how we move from information to transformation.

Introducing: The Teach With Power Masterclass Series

If any of this is resonating, then you’re exactly who I created the Teach With Power Masterclass Series for.

This is a four-part professional development series for current and emerging spiritual teachers who are ready to go beyond the surface and teach with true power and presence.

Here’s what we’re covering:

🌀 Masterclass 1: Developing Your Skills as a Spiritual Teacher
Understand what it means to be a spiritual teacher, not just a guide. Learn how to set energetic containers and call in archetypal support for your sacred work.

📖 Masterclass 2: Mastering the Art of Teaching Spiritual Content

We’re not teaching primary school curriculum, we’re teaching sacred knowledge. This session explores how to teach with integrity, honour lineage, and hold space for diverse learning experiences.

⚙️ Masterclass 3: Designing Programs That Actually Work
Move beyond overpacked curriculums and step into powerful program design that facilitates lasting change long after your classes end.

🔥 Masterclass 4: Elevating Your Impact as a Spiritual Leader
Because teaching is leadership. Learn how to lead with inner authority, not performative confidence. How to set energetic set points. And how to own your presence without apology.

Why This Matters

Too many incredible teachers are stuck in doubt, overcompensating with content instead of learning how to hold space.

Too many students are left in freeze, overwhelmed by information but untouched by transformation.

It’s time to change that.

These masterclasses are packed with the knowledge, tools, and practices I’ve honed over decades as a teacher, academic, and trained actor.

We’ll look at not just what we teach but how we teach.
From your voice, your presence, your format, your staging…
To how you challenge, support, and empower your students to rise.

Join Us

The Teach With Power Masterclass Series begins June 30.

You can attend one or all four classes. You get lifetime access. So if you can’t attend live, you’ll still receive the full value.

This is essential professional development for spiritual teachers and those who are feeling called to step into the role.
